Sagrada Familia
Yesterday we made a visit to the Sagrada Familia and it was absolutely amazing! It was incredibly tall and was full of Gaudi's distinct style. All of Gaudi's work was inspired by nature and it can be clearly seen in this enormous church. Some examples of this are the main supports inside of the church. These are massive columns that reach all the way to the top of the ceiling and split out once there. These were inspired by trees and their branches spreading out. Another example is the knots on these columns. These are inspired by the places where branches are cut on trees. One last example is the spiral staircase. This feature was inspired by the force of gravity and how seeds of trees spiral down to the ground when they fall. The place is still undergoing construction today after being started in 1882 and Gaudi devoted over 40 years of his life to overseeing the progress of the extraordinary church.
